Description

The Melt Flow Index Tester is a laboratory instrument used to measure the melt flow rate (MFR) or melt volume rate (MVR) of thermoplastic polymers. The MFI value indicates how easily a polymer melts and flows when subjected to heat and pressure. It is expressed in grams per 10 minutes (g/10 min), describing the amount of polymer extruded through a die at a specified temperature and load over a ten-minute interval.

This property is critical because it determines how a plastic material will behave during molding or extrusion processes. High MFI indicates a lower viscosity (flows easily), whereas low MFI means higher viscosity (resists flow). Manufacturers use this data to determine process conditions, compare batches, or select suitable materials for specific applications.
